Adding color to your day

I've been getting the Simon Says Stamp card kits since the beginning and my goal is to use up one kit before another arrives.  I'm close to finishing up the March 2014 kit, but since the April kit arrived today, I guess I missed my goal!  It's just something I do to justify getting the kits!

 

I used the crayon stamp and Deconstructed Sketch #143 for this card:

Monster love

Hello from rainy South Carolina!  We've had some real thunder-boomers move through our town today and I've stayed inside until they move on outta here.  I've been using the January SSS card kit today to make some cards.  One of my resolutions is to use up one kit before I order another...we'll see how that goes for me this year.

 

I love the monster with three eyes stamp and made a Silhouette cut file of him so I could avoid fussy-cutting it out.  This is one of the cards I made with the monster:

 

The woodgrain paper in the kit is awesome and I made a simple card to show off that paper:

 

My last card involved more work, but I'm pleased with it.  I'm entering it into the CAS-ual Friday challenge: In a word .  My word: Love!

 

I cut the word on my Silhouette using the Gloucester font and the "you" is a die from Simon Says Stamp.  The background stamp is Hero Arts.

His and Hers sketch challenge

For today's sketch challenge at Operation Write Home, I made two cards - a his and hers version.  For the masculine card, I turned the sketch on its side like so:

I used the original orientation of the sketch for my feminine version:

The papers and stickers are from the March Simon Says Stamp card kit.  I seem to be in a spring mood right now and I'm going to use up all these bright colors for more cards.

Summer Card Class - Day 5 + some challenges

I've been so busy with Summer Card class, that I'm behind posting entries for some other fun challenges, so today's post is a catch up for me.

 

First up is the card for Friday's challenge, which is a window card and embossed acetate.  I admit that when I first saw this card, I thought it was too complicated, but it went together in a jiff:

I loved that one of the flamingoes stood out from the others.  I reversed the colors and used July's free digital from Birdie Brown:

My last card is for this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

I pieced the banner together using papers from the July Simon Says Stamp kit.  I liked this sketch and though it would go with a lot of ideas in my head.

 

I'm hoping to play with today's OWH sketch too.

Two sketches on Sunday

Hi everyone!  It's another rainy end to a hot weekend here in the deep South, which means it's OK to stay inside and craft!  I made cards for two different challenges today.

 

The first challenge is for Freshly Made sketch #92:

This sketch made me think of the American flag, so I made a patriotic card:

I used two embossing folders for each side and the sentiment is Simon Says Stamp, which I embossed in gold.  This will be an Anyhero card to put in my box of cards for Operation Write Home.

 

My second card is for today's OWH challenge and I love the sketch with all the layers:

 

 

The papers are from the June Simon Says Stamp card kit; sentiment is from Hero Arts.  I'm trying to finish the June kit because I just got the July one and I don't want my family to see me with multiple kits open!  Gotta use 'em up!

 

I was happy to see that we had 50+ cards for the June ODBD challenge!  Great job, everyone!

National Scrapbook Day rebellion

Hi everyone!  Although I went to a weekend crop for National Scrapbook Day (15 pages done!), I wanted to participate in OWH's VCMP - Virtual Card making party.  I've got a lot of catching up to do and I plan on putting all the cards in this one post.

 

Challenge #1: ODBD Miss You :

I made the background on glossy paper with alcohol inks.  The sentiment is from Stamps of Life, mounted on to two pieces of vellum.

 

Challenge #2: Kids cards

 

I cut the Ipod images on my Cricut and the sentiment is from the You set at Simon Says Stamp.  I now see that Paula didn't challenge is to do both a boy & girl card, but it was easy to make the second one.

 

Challenge #3: Romance cards

The sentiment is a rubon from Creative Imaginations and the papers are all from my stash.  The ruffle card tutorial was one of the first ones I watched over a year ago and it was fun to re-visit the technique.

 

Challenge #4: Card from a scrapbook sketch

Here's my take on the sketch:

 

The papers, sentiment and hearts are from the May Simon Says Stamp card kit. I inked the hearts with Tsukineko Brilliance gold ink.  Now, I know that the Mother's Day deadline for OWH has passed, but I had to make some Mother's Day cards to mail out.

 

Challenge #5: OWH Sketch #171

 

Sentiment, lace & paper is from the May SSS card kit.  This started out as a masculine card, but the lace took it to the feminine side.  Once Sandy challenged us with romance, I can't seem to get off that subject!

 

Challenge #6: Handmade by Julie - Use a photo on a card

 

What a great idea!  This picture is from my Hawaii trip last year - I took tons of flower pictures.  The sentiment is from Jillibean and the papers are from the April Simon Says Stamp kit.

 

Challenge #7: Summertime cards

 

Paper & sentiment from the April SSS card kit.  I colored the digistamp using Copics and embossed the top yellow half of the card with the Swirls Cuttlebug folder.

 

Challenge #8: Googlie Eyes

 

I used an image from My Cute Graphics and the sentiment is from the You set from Simon Says Stamp.  I thought I had no googly eyes, but I found a small bag this morning!  Yeah!  I need to stay away from craft stores for a while and use my stash.

 

Alrighty then - I completed all the VCMP challenges and got a good head start on my next OWH box.  I'm gonna check out what the other ladies have been doing this past weekend and....relax!

His & Hers - Day 3 - Sympathy/Thank You cards

Today's I'm combining our class homework with a few challenges, so here goes:

 

Our class homework is to make his/hers sympathy cards.  I started with Freshly Made Sketch #84

 

 

 

 and used the Simon Says Stamp May 2013 card kit to make the his version:



I used the line stamp from SSS Everyday Happy set with Delicata gold ink on the top and bottom of the paper, as well as the Hero Arts sentiment.  I love the Delicata ink - it stamps intricate designs very well.

 

Here's the hers version:

 

I turned the sketch vertically and stamped the line & sentiment with Versamark Smokey Gray ink.  I white embossed the flowers from the May kit and colored them with Inktense pencils. 

 

The next challenge is the mid week throwdown at Operation Write Home.  I used the Mojo Monday 291 sketch as my starting point:

All papers are from the May SSS card kit.  On the female version, I used the banner stamp on vellum with white embossing.  I learned to watch that heat gun on the vellum!  It will bubble up if you heat it too long.

Happy Birthday card

Hello!  This week, Simon Says Stamp turns 4 years old and they're having a birthday challenge over on their Challenge Blog.  I tore into the April SSS card kit and used the stamp and papers to make this card:

 

The inspiration to use tags and twine is from this week's Mid-week Throwdown at OWH - Tags N Twine.  I love the way the word AMAZING stands out on the stamp - even if you're not having an amazing birthday, you feel good just reading that!

 

Here's the latest kit - they really are something fun to buy and I love all the little accessories in the kit (no - SSS doesn't pay me to say that).

Freshly Made Sketch #69

I'm making my fourth card from January's Simon Says Stamp Card Kit.  The papers and stamps are so much fun!  I hopped on over to Freshly Made Sketches for inspiration and used Sketch 69 for my card:

 

I pieced together two zig zag papers from the card kit and stamped the sentiment with Archival Ink.  The buttons were stamped with Versamark and then embossed.  The card is a 4.25 inch square card, which can be used for a short note for our soldiers to send home.
