OWH Sketch #248

When I saw the latest OWH sketch (#248) , all I could envision was....fish.  I guess those circles just sent me into the water.  I cut out some cute fish on my Silhouette, along with a wavy line background and added a digi stamp from The Alley Way:

 

I was going to add small circles for bubbles, but I couldn't find my circle punch, so I used another punch for the at sign punches (is that what you'd call them?)  I'm also submitting this card to the ODBD February challenge, which is animals.

 

I enjoyed the wavy Silhouette file so much that I used it to make a thank you card:

This was a good way to use up leftover strips from a 6x6 pad that I'm trying to "disappear"!

Catching up with OWH

I've had a busy weekend so far and I managed to fit in some time to make cards and catch up with Operation Write Home challenges.  The first one is today's Team Challenge - make a card using your favorite team's colors.

 

My favorite NFL team is the Carolina Panthers and I love their colors of bright blue, black and white.  I used the Inward Star card Silhouette file #44614 for my card:

Those are letter stickers spelling the word "Thanks" - I have tons of those!  They're about 15 years old from when I started scrapbooking.  It feels good to put them to good use.

 

My next card is for sketch #246 - here.  I bought this chair stamp and had never used it until I made this card!  Unbelievable!

The sentiment is from another stamp set (I don't remember which one right now). 

 

I've also been busy making an art journal page, which can be a slow event.  I have to stop and wait for the gesso, multi-matte medium or embossing paste or whatever to dry, so it's been a work in progress all day, but I'm pretty happy with the result.

 

Well, the big game is tomorrow and I'm pulling for the Seahawks - I love an underdog.  Hope your weekend is going well and thanks for stopping by!

OWH Sketch #245

Greetings!  Hope you're enjoying this time of year - it's been quite rainy here in South Carolina and that makes the days dreary, so I'm trying to liven things up with craft time.  I used the latest sketch from OWH -  - #245 - for a quick card using scraps:

 

The stamps is from Cardz TV - Going in Circles.  I jazzed up the tag with gold embossing.  Hmmm--it looks plain here in the picture but I promise in real life it's got more interest!  Ha!

 

I'm looking forward to the Jan 1 OWH bloghop - best of 2014.  I'm going to start picking out some of my favorites tonight.  I love the inspiration from everyone that hops along and I'll bookmark the ones I want to CASE in the future.

OWH Sketch #244

Happy Christmas Eve!  I'm fortunate to have this day off from work and I finished up some wrapping, chores and fit in time to make some cards.  The latest sketch from OWH is #244 which I changed a bit to fit my Doodlepantry image from the Spring Critters collection.  It's been a while since I made a card, so using a digital image is an easy way to get back into that crafty mode.  And who can resist their cute images?

I was so motivated that I made three cards using Doodlepantry images.  Here's the first, following sketch #244:

The paper is BoBunny Double Dots, along with a scrap behind that cute little chick.

My next two cards use images from the Silly Critters collection:

I traced and cut the images using my Silhouette and it's so fast to get a card done that way.  I hope I can make more cards during the holidays - I miss it so much!

I'm finding time to join in a few card challenges and today's card is for a challenge that's new to me - Cards in envy.  Their challenge is to use twine on an A2 card, which I haven't done in a while.  I went back to the Spirelli tutorial from OWH (here) and with the latest OWH sketch, I created this card:

Love ya to the stars

Happy hot Sunday to ya!  It's not only hot here in the deep South, but it's also very humid.  We're expected to hit 100 degrees on Wednesday!  Ouch!  I can't complain, though, because we've really had a mild summer -I  knew those hot days would come to visit us sometime!

I'm officially an empty-nester now that my son moved in to his college dorm this weekend.  Yeah!  I found time to make cards and catch up on some challenges.

My first card is inspired by Kristina Werner's galaxy card.  It was fun to play with acrylic paints and Distress Inks to create a sky for the Lawn Fawn sentiment:

My next two cards are for Operation Write Home challenges.  I used Penny Black Critters stamps and colored them with Distress Inks.

Those little critters are so adorable!  I couldn't pass this stamp set by when I bought it at Absolutely Everything in Massachusetts.  There's other images too that I can't wait to color.

OWH Sunday sketches

After our road trip up to Maine, it felt good to get back home and do a little crafting.  I did persuade my husband to stop by a scrapbooking shop where I bought more stamps, inks and embossing powder too, so now I need to break them out soon and use them!

Sending prayers

I spent last weekend at Myrtle Beach, soaking up the sun.  When I got home Sunday, I found an hour to finish making sympathy cards for my cat's veterinarian and used this week's OWH sketch (#231) for one of the cards:

Sentiment is by SSS and all cardstock is from my stash.  I changed up the sketch quite a bit, but I hope you can still recognize it!

The sentiment is from Hannelie's blog but I couldn't find it there any longer.  The flower stamps are from the SSS favorite flowers set.  I stamped and masked the flowers and leaves.  This one layer card went together quickly for me because I didn't let myself stress over it!  Ta da!

Sympathy card for the vet

This week my daughter brought home a kitten that she was only supposed to babysit and find a home for and well, you know how that goes.   We adopted him and now I've got two cats again.  When we took him to the vet for his shots, I remembered how considerate they were when one of my cats died last year.  They even sent me a sympathy card, which I thought was nice.  I'm going to make them a small set of sympathy cards to send other pet owners and used this week's Fusion card challenge to start off that set of cards:

I adhered a piece of vellum to white cardstock and added gold paper around it.  The gold flower is from an SEI 6x6 paper pad and the sentiment is from the Hero Arts Year Round set, stamped in Delicata Gold ink.  I even used some lace ribbon at the top!  My next set of sympathy cards may be a bit simpler, but I enjoyed fusing the sketch and inspiration photo together for this challenge.

Since today's Sunday, I also made cards for this week's OWH sketch - #230.  In my own personal challenge to use more purple, my first card uses a purple/green combination:

I inked the background with an embossing folder using a technique Jennifer McGuire recently shared.  It was one of those OMG - I have to try that! videos - seen here.

My next card is a masculine version, using scraps:

I embossed the background with gold embossing powder.  The brads are punched through to the card on the inside so everything was nice and flat for mailing.

It's a thrilling Tuesday for me because I received an honorable mention at the Muse challenge blog!  Woohoo!  I feel like the father in A Christmas Story who jumped around all happy for his Major Award!  Yippee.  Thanks so much to the ladies who voted for my card!!!

I made a card from this week's OWH sketch ( #229 ) using the Paper Smooches Chubby Chums set.  I bought this set during the Memorial Day sale and found that those cute little animals fit into the circles from the sketch:

Those happy little faces are a reflection of how I feel today!  Yippee!!

Sunday sketches

Hey there!  If it's Sunday, that means there's time for me to make cards for a few challenges.  The first one is the latest sketch at Operation Write Home - #228.  I love the layers in this sketch, but I turned it on its side for my card:

Papers and stamps are from the June SSS kit, except for the dark blue and the oval frame, which I cut on my Silhouette.  It's hard to tell, but I layered the frame, vellum and a piece of striped paper behind the sentiment.  

My next card is based on Retro Sketch #118:

I turned this sketch as well - I guess I'm being a rebel today!

Thank you cards

With high school graduation coming up soon, it seems I've got a lot of thank you cards to send out.  I used this week's OWH sketch - #226  - as inspiration for one of them.

The flower is from the Silhouette online store - #33935; stamps by Hero Arts Everyday Sayings.  I discovered that gold gets along with well with purple, a color that really challenges me.

I didn't have enough papers left over to make another card like this one, so I pulled out my new Hero Arts Tiny Flag stamp and made several thank you cards (inspired by Jennifer McGuire -here  ):

My last thank you cards are intended for my son's music teachers - all male.  A masculine musical thank you card - that's a mouthful!  I used Tim Holtz papers, tags and metal embellishment for my card:

I cut the instruments on my Silhouette and inked them with Aged Mahogany and Forest Moss.

I went to Joann's today and they had tons of clearance prices on Tim Holtz items - I stocked up!  Woohoo!  You might want to check that out, if you've got a Joanns near you.

Sketch N Scrap + an OWH sketch card

My uncooperative laptop as made me late in posting my card for this week's OWH sketch - #224.  I made two cards with this sketch:

Sentiments are by Doodle Pantry.

I managed to fit in some time for scrapbooking and made a page using the May "Inspired by" sketch from Sketch N Scrap:

This page uses Graphic 45 paper and documents our visit to the Jekyll & Hyde restaurant in NYC.  We're not allowed to take photos inside, which I learned after snapping the skeleton and Dracula, so I had to journal about the visit.  I used my Silhouette and the Chiller font to create the title for the page.  It's always fun to get back to my scrapping, even if I'm 5 years behind!

Happy Mother's Day to my sister

I used this Sketch #223  at OWH to make a Mother's Day card for my sister.  (I know - waiting until the last minute!)  The images on my card are by Doodle Pantry - the Petite Bouquet::

Although the photo doesn't show, I distressed the image with Antique Linen to blend in with the shabby papers by MME Dolled Up.  I was so happy that this Doodle Pantry set came with multiple sentiments for mothers, sisters and in-laws.  It was perfect!

Watercolor class

I've signed up for the watercolor class at Online card classes  and made time this weekend to get to know my watercolors. I bought a set of of  12 Winsor & Newton watercolors at Hobby Lobby (40% off!) and made a chart like so:

 This was very helpful because it was hard to tell how the colors would translate onto the page.  I also did a bit of experimenting mixing colors as well.  I completed the homework assignment and made two plaid backgrounds:

I'm trying to figure out how to use them on a card, but it was fun to play around and I washed more color over an embossed image here:

I'm glad I bought the watercolor set because the colors are so vibrant.  I can't wait for class to begin!

My next challenge was this Sunday's sketch at OWH - #222 provided by Donna .  I loved this sketch because it was fast to put together and made for interesting cards.  Here's my take, which I discovered later didn't follow her card exactly:

    Sentiment is by Papertrey Ink Celebrations.  The gold embossing didn't photograph well, but it's readable in real life.

OWH challenges

Hey there!  Happy Hump Day!  I'm joining in today's Brown color challenge at Operation Write Home with this card:

   This stamp set is from Hero Arts and I embossed the clock and sentiment in gold, with gold paper behind them.  The design paper is from my stash.

 

I made a set of cards using OWH's sketch #221.  This sketch was tough for me, for some reason, and here are my cards, using stuff from the April SSS kit:

Bugs & Kisses

Happy Sunday!  The latest challenge over at Fantabulous Cricut is - Spring Cleaning  - create a project with a Cricut cartridge I never used before.  There's only one cartridge in my stash that this applies to - Living Simply.  The images on this cartridge are quirky and I chose the lady bug for my card, using today's OWH sketch - #220

 

This card will also work for this month's ODBD challenge, which is Insects.  I added a bit of Wink of Stella to the hearts and the sentiment is from My Pink Stamper (out of business).

 

My second card uses the same OWH sketch but this is a masculine version.  Today's sketch certainly was a challenge for me without measurements, but I like it and plan to make more cards using it. 

Sentiment is by Fiskars Holiday hoopla and papers are from my stash.

Doodlepantry redux

Yesterday, I put away my masculine papers and brought them out again after seeing that today's OWH sketch (#219) is sponsored by Doodlepantry. It's a coinkydink that I also used Doodlepantry files for yesterday's cards.   I chose their mallards image for a set of Father's Day cards like this one:

I used the Silhouette Print and Cut feature to cut perfect circles around the mallard.  I added Antique Linen distress ink to the image so it blended in with my papers, which are from my stash.

 

I've print & cut 7 more images and will use them to make more cards.  I'm learning how to put my cards together a bit quicker - but still have that quality that we want for OWH cards.

Sunshine Sunday

It's a sunny day today after two rainy days and I'm happy to see the sun.  Today's OWH sketch is #218 (although the OWH blog called it 118) with lots of layers:

I had the pieces of this card on my table and I wasn't sure how to put it together until I saw today's sketch:

The sun is Silhouette Design id Design ID #44196 and I stamped his expression with a Peachy Keen stamp.

 

My second card for today is in honor of Suzanne, whom we recently lost from our OWH community (read this link ).  It's wonderful to see her cards and commitment to our group and I wish her family peace in the coming months to fill the void that Suzanne leaves. 

 

My card was inspired by the Miss You card she made for one of the Friday Features, which included balloons.
