SSS#160, Craft Spot #57 & Distress ink tags

Hi everyone!  I checked out the Sweet Stop blog for an inspirational sketch and decided to make a card based on it.  I made the base from Distress inks Pumice Stone and Vintage Photo.  I embossed & layered the two vertical strips and used an old-fashioned button at the top.  I don't know if you can see it, but the button has a time piece on it.  My final embellishment was to emboss the sentiment with gold embossing powder.

I'm also entering this into the latest Craft Spot challenge - buttons and bows.  I've just started following the Craft Spot and I love the inspiration (and her blog is just too beautiful!)

While I was playing with my distress inks, I decided to make tags with labels for all the distress inks.  I inked the tags with their appropriate color.  I love glancing at the actual colors when I want to ink something and this will come in handy for me.

Thanks for looking and happy inking!

OWH Sketch #123

The OWH Memorial Bloghop is still going on and I've had so many lovely comments on my contribution to the hop.  It's been a lot of fun.  Today, we've got another great OWH sketch.  Although I'm busy making birthday cards for June birthdays, I managed to make a card based on the sketch:

It's a very romantic card.  I used old old Creative Memories paper and an SVG for the flower, which I inked with the Spun Sugar distress ink.  I used small pearls around the sentiment and in the flower center.

I'm going to start making SVG files of card sketches, which should help me put the cards together quicker.  I'm sharing the file with anyone who wishes to download it here:

I also made another card for OWH out of the same paper.  It's not based on a sketch - I just kept layering the scraps of paper until I came up with something suitable!

I'm still checking out the Memorial Day bloghops and they've inspired me so much.
Hope you're having a relaxing fun weekend!

OWH Memorial Day Bloghop

Hi Bloggers and welcome to the Memorial Day Bloghop for Operation Write Home.  I'm so excited because this is my first bloghop!  Yippee!  It's for such a great cause, too!

My chosen sketch is #83 and here it is:

At the time it was posted, I was not a card making junkie, so it was fun to look at the cards made for this challenge.  I made an AnyHero card.  In the beginning, I was shy about making and writing to servicemen/women that I didn't know, but now that I've done some, I'm getting the hang of it.
Here's my finished card:

The sentiment is from Paula at Handmade by Paula and the paper is from the BoBunny Weekend Market 6x6 paper collection:

I hope you get inspired to make cards for our deployed solders thru OWH!  It's a great community of caring and creative people!

Getting ready for my first blog hop!

What a week - I haven't been able to make any cards and I feel sooo deprived!  But tonight, I'm hiding away in my craft room getting ready for my first blog hop - the OWH Memorial Day weekend blog hop!

I'm really looking forward to it...hope to see you all on the hop!

OWH Scrappy background

OWH challenged us to use up our scraps to make backgrounds for cards.  I've done this before and it was pretty easy.  I use by Xyron to coat the entire card base in sticky stuff and then just place the strips in a pattern on the card.  I learned this Herringbone technique from SplitCoast Stampers here: Herringbone tutorial.  Here's the base layer with all of my paper strips:

Then I simply printed a digi sentiment and used my Spellbinders to cut out some layers.  I read that my shipper needs Anniversary cards, so this is my first one!

This is really simple to put together and helps me use up all of my scraps!  Now on to make a patriotic version!

Mojo Monday 240

I tried my second Mojo Monday sketch this week because the sketch looked so interesting.

There are so many great cards submitted with this sketch and here's my take on it:

I used a Cuttlebug folder to emboss the brown background and the pattern paper is from Basic Grey.  A little bow on the front helps dress it up.  This was fun and I hope to make more cards from this sketch.

Fantabulous Monday!

I was so busy making Mother's Day cards for OWH that I didn't make any for my own family!  Yesterday, I finally took the time to make some.  I made 5x5 inch cards and used paper from We R Memory Keepers called "Tres Elegant Debonair".  I got this on clearance from my local scrap store and have used up every piece.

I just kept layering and cutting the labels on top of each other.  One of the best things is that I used two eyelets to hold my ribbon!  My poor, neglected eyelets have been sitting around unused far far too long....ha ha!  Now that I've used them here, I'll definitely try to work them into some future cards.

and the inside sentiment from Inkadinkado:

This card is similar to an earlier posting, but it's definitely a different card (because this one turned out better!)  I'm entering this into FCCB's latest challenge - FCCB 110.  I didn't use any images from a Cricut cartridge, but I cut the images using my Expression with files from Bird's Cards (see her post here: Daffodils card.  The digital stamp is from Bird as well.

I hope everyone gets to squeeze in a few handmade cards for their Moms!

OWH Sketch #120

Hi bloggers!  I've had a fun, relaxing weekend making cards, shopping and catching up on housework.  Today's OWH sketch inspired me to use a few Tim Holtz stamps for the first time.  Here's my take on the sketch:

I distressed the tag with Walnut Stain and used the Birdcage, quote and small bird from Tim Holtz's collections.  I embossed the quote with Martha Stewart Antique Gold embossing powder.  The oval shape was a little too large, so I may try this sketch again.

I've made Mother's Day cards to send out, as well as 12 cards for OWH - wow!  I've become sooo addicted to making cards.  I hope everyone else had a great weekend.
