Make thank you cards for the troops

I just read about Stephen Goodman's quest to make thank you cards for every deployed active duty soldier.  What a wonderful idea!  I can't wait to crank out some thank you cards and sent them to him.  Here's a link for more info: Creative Escape

Here's the story:
Ten-year-old Stephen Goodman, a fifth-grader in Surprise, Arizona, wants to send a thank you card next to military personnel. Not to one platoon, or to just one division, but to every actively deployed service member in the U.S. military. Stephen said he thought of the idea while spending the summer with his grandparents in Phoenix. “My grandpa went to Vietnam and didn’t get any cards, and he felt forgotten,” he said. Stephen started locally, creating and hand-delivering 218 Fourth of July cards for patients at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix. The feedback was so thrilling and positive that Stephen started thinking: Why not send one to everyone deployed? He began paying attention to news reports. Somewhere, he gleaned the number of overseas troops to be 180,000. “I was really taken aback when he said he wanted to do one for all the troops,” said Stephen’s father, Steven Goodman. “I explained to him it was a big project, and because of what his intentions were, he would have to carry it out.” Each thank you card is handmade, using “construction paper and scissor designs and markers and stickers and my imagination and that’s it.” according to Stephen. The entire family pitches in. So far, they’ve made about 15,000 cards. Vice President Joe Biden happened to catch Stephen’s story while traveling through Phoenix last August. Stephen got his own thank you in the mail. “It just said thank you for what I’m doing, the soldiers will appreciate it,” he remembered. The letter made Stephen’s summer. “It made me feel very excited to know that the vice president sent me something,” he said. When all 180,000 cards are done, the Goodmans plan to take them to Luke Air Force Base where they will be delivered overseas all at once to make sure no soldier is over looked.

FCCB Challenge #51

I made a card for this week's FCCB challenge - make a square card with green and yellow colors.  I've been wanting to make some baby cards and thought this would be a good time to make some - as it turns out, I only made one!

I used the Create a Critter cartridge for the giraffe, lion and sun and the Wild Card for the "Baby Blessings" phrase.  I used my SCAL to cut out the kite SVG.  Here's the card:

I used stickles to decorate my animals, sun and kite.

I enjoy the FCCB challenges because they encourage me to think outside the box.  Hope you enjoyed this card!

Vintage Telephone SVG

I've got another free SVG to share - a vintage telephone.  I created it in Inkscape, using a tutorial from Tu J's and a Taco (here's here tutorial: TuJs Inkscape tutorial.)  I'm still learning, but it was fun to create it.  Here's the file:

Enjoy!

Doodlecharms Giveaway!

Holy Smokes!  What is going on at Walmart?  I went there today to pick up some things and I always go down the scrapbook aisle to see if they've lowered the prices on the old cartridges they're still trying to sell.  I went down a craft aisle and saw some cartridges on a shelf at clearance prices.  The Doodlecharms cartridge was selling for $1.00!!!  Yes - that's one buck-a-roo!  I couldn't believe it.  I bought all three of them on the shelf.  Here's my Walmart receipt:

The Sans Serif cartridge was selling for $5.00 and I bought the Celebrations for $23.00 (maybe I should've waited on that one to see if they'd go lower).  I was very happy and the checkout lady couldn't believe how low the price was too!

Anyway, I don't need three Doodlecharms cartridges - I'm going to give one to a friend that I recently converted into a Cricut lover and I thought I'd give the last one away.  Just leave me one comment on my blog with your email address.  I'll draw the winner on St Patrick's Day - Thursday, March 17th.

Thanks for playing along!  This is my first blog giveaway!

And thank-you for all the kind comments on my blog.  I'm enjoying this whole blogging thing.

Laundry Room Collage

This past weekend, I put together two collage scrapbook frames to decorate my laundry room.  I painted my laundry room and wanted to spiff it up some.  I was inspired by Amy's "Gnome Sweet Gnome" collage at SVGCuts.com: http://www.svgcuts.com/blog/2011/02/24/gnome-sweet-gnome-svg-collage/.

I'm also entering this in the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge!  I used the American Crafts "Dear Lizzy" paper and the butterflies and trees are from the April Showers Cricut cartridge.  The basket is from the Everyday Paper Dolls cartridge, and I cut off the basket handle to make it look more like a laundry basket and punched two circles for the laundry in the baskets.

I used my Cri-Kit pens to write the words "Loads of fun" and cut the clouds in my Sure-Cuts-a-Lot software.  I embossed the tree tops with the Swiss dots Cuttlebug folder and then stickled each dot.  The butterflies and large cloud are also enhanced with Stickles.  It's hard to see that in the photo.

I cut out the individual clothes from the "Dear Lizzy" paper line and used the same butterflies from the April Showers cartridges.  The phrase "It all comes out in the wash" was written with my Cri-Kits pens.  I used stickles on the butterflies.

I hope you enjoyed reading this!
